Democracy at Risk: Opinions on the Impact of Immigration in the U.S.

30/09/24 – 17:05 P.M

Trump supporters argue that his re-election is crucial to saving democracy in the U.S., claiming that the Biden-Harris administration is accelerating the process of converting immigrants into citizens. According to them, this could significantly alter election results in critical swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Arizona, where the margin of victory is typically slim.

The theory suggests that by adding millions of new voters, Democrats would solidify their dominance, eliminating any real competition. They also claim that asylum seekers, quickly granted citizenship, are being settled in key states, skewing the results.

As an example, they point to California after the 1986 amnesty, where the Democratic Party gained long-lasting control. These voices argue that a future national «one-party system» could lead to increasingly progressive policies with no possibility for change.

For many Trump supporters, this scenario represents a real threat to the U.S. democratic system, which they believe would be transformed by accelerated citizenship and strategic demographic shifts.
